Core Function: The sensor's main purpose is to detect and feedback the cross-slope angle of the screed. Cross-slope refers to the transverse inclination of the road surface relative to the horizontal plane, usually expressed as a percentage, and is essential for ensuring proper water drainage.
Operating Principle:
Physical Connection: The sensor is connected to the paver's tow arms or reference beam (e.g., an averaging beam) via a mechanical pendulum arm.
Position Sensing: As the paver moves during operation, variations in the ground level cause the tow arms to raise or lower. This movement is transmitted through the pendulum arm to the sensor, causing the internal shaft of the sensor to rotate.
Signal Conversion: A precision potentiometer or encoder inside the sensor converts the shaft's rotation angle (i.e., the pendulum position) into a corresponding change in resistance or a voltage signal.
System Control: This electrical signal is sent to the paver's control console. The console compares the real-time signal with the target cross-slope value set by the operator. If a deviation is detected, the console issues a command to automatically adjust the hydraulic cylinders on one side of the screed, thereby correcting the screed's tilt angle to maintain the set cross-slope.
